Prime Minister Borissov Comments Situation with Readmission Agreement with Turkey

Sofia, June 20 (BTA)- Approached by reporters on Monday, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said that the situation along the Bulgarian-Turkish border is calm, security has been strengthened further, and diplomacy talks are being conducted with Turkey. Borissov was asked whether Turkey was still not re-admitting refugees from Bulgaria which the country stopped doing last week. The Prime Minister said that he had sent a letter to the European Foreign Affairs Council to consider the issue at an upcoming council meeting.

Approached to comment whether the National Electricity Company (NEC) will be able to find resources to pay Russia's Atomstroyexport the amount of 550 million euro NEC was ordered to pay in a decision last week of the International Court of Arbitration in Paris, Borissov noted that the court decision is acceptable as it requires Bulgaria to pay only for the equipment produced for the Belene N-plant project before it was scrapped. The Prime Minister said that this did not constitute a fine and that the important thing now is to hold meetings with the partners from the Russian side "in a normal and pragmatic tone". Borissov stressed the importance of normalizing the relations between the two companies and finding the best solution. He said that the best option is to sell the equipment, so that Bulgaria could recoup the money. The Prime Minister said that he will be visiting Iran on July 11 and offer more comments afterwards.
