President Plevneliev: Time Has Come for All of Us to Show the Kind of State  We Want to Live in

Sofia, November 4 (BTA) - In his traditional address before the day of reflection for the presidential elections and national referendum, President Rosen Plevneliev notes that the people's vote is the most powerful weapon for setting the direction of the country's development. "The time has come for all of us to show the kind of a state that we, our children and grandchildren want to live in," Plevneliev is quoted as saying by his Press Secretariat. His address is broadcast on national TV and radio on Friday evening, as Saturday is a day of reflection and media silence preceding the Sunday election and referendum.

"Europe and the world are going through one of their most difficult periods in 70 years. We have seen enough messiahs and populists in our history. They always come in difficult times, exploit people's fears, never bringing any problem to a sustainable solution. Lets vote smart, support the sustainable solutions, give way to values and moral, to democracy, to peace and freedom," the President urges.

The head of State calls for adhering to the values underlying democratic society. "No one should underestimate the Bulgarian people's wisdom. When at the polls, lets support the values and realistic approach that provide solutions on the path of accomplishing the national ideal," President Plevneliev says.

The head of State voices his belief that, in these elections too, the Bulgarian people will show that in addition to the qualities of one candidate or another, Bulgaria's choice of values, being part of the EU and NATO, is conscious, "just like peace, freedom and democracy have no alternative".

"I call on the political parties and all participants in the upcoming elections to respect the people's right to make their choice freely and independently. Lets not burden the day of reflection with manipulation attempts and unauthorized attraction of votes. We know this approach from the recent past, but everyone should know that such a success is deceptive, while the damages it causes to the political system and civil society are incomparably heavier. Lets all respect our people, believe in its wisdom and accept its decision as it is," President Plevneliev says.
