site.btaPrime Minister Borissov Meets Russian Prosecutor General Chaika

Sofia, September 19 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov conferred here on Tuesday with the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, Yuri Chaika, Cabinet's information service reported. Chaika is paying a two-day official visit to Bulgaria as part of a Cooperation Agreement he had signed back in October 2008 with the then Bulgarian prosecutor general Boris Velchev.

Borissov and Chaika discussed topical issues related to security and counterterrorism. The Prime Minister noted that it is in Bulgaria's interest for Russian tourists to come to this country and expressed gratitude to the services of the two countries for having ensured a peaceful season for them.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister also spoke of the trade and economic relations between Bulgaria and Russia, pointing out that their further development is of mutual benefit.

Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov and the Russian Ambassador to Bulgaria, Anatoly Makarov, also attended the meeting.

On Monday Tsatsarov and Chaika signed a Cooperation Programme between the two institutions for the period 2017-2019. The two countries' prosecution offices will exchange experience in counterterrorism, the fight against radicalization and extremism, as well as tackling transnational organized crime.
