Sofia, April 18 (BTA) - The Council of Ministers approved Bulgaria's bid to host the European Labour Authority (ELA), the Government Information Service said on Thursday. The decision was adopted without meeting.

The discussion of a Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing a European Labour Authority began in March 2018 within the Bulgarian EU Council Presidency.

The new institution will support EU support Member States in cooperation, information exchange, concerted and joint inspections, risk assessment, capacity building, mediation, and cooperation in the event of cross-border labour market disruptions. the establishment of the ELA will help to ensure that workers' and citizens' rights to equal treatment and access to employment opportunities and social security are guaranteed in cross-border situations. It will also provide transparency for businesses on local labour standards throughout the Internal Market.

The Authority is expected to go into operation before the end of 2019, the press release says. RY/TH
