May 16 (BTA) - Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic spoke on the phone to discuss issues related to the quadrilateral format between Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and Serbia and the projects on energy and infrastructural connectivity, the Council of Ministers said Wednesday in a press release.

President Vucic noted his appreciation for the letter supporting Serbia's European perspective that the other three countries sent to German Chancellor Angela Merkel and to French President Emmanuel Macron. Vucic noted that the cooperation format between Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and Serbia is essential for the development of economy, connectivity and good-neighbourly relations.

Prime Minister Borissov welcomed Serbia's efforts to join the EU and defined the implementation of projects on transport, infrastructure and energy connectivity as the key to developing the region.

Vucic informed Borissov of the completion of construction work on the southern part of the Pan-European Corridor X, adding that the last section of the motorway, passing through the Grdelica gorge, will be open for traffic on Saturday.

The two officials also discussed opportunities for diversification of gas supply through the Balkan Gas Hub project, which should combine gas from several directions of supply. "The implementation of the projects for the Gas Interconnector Bulgaria-Serbia and for expanding the gas pipeline from the Bulgarian-Turkish border to the Bulgarian-Serbian border is of key importance, as it will guarantee the energy security of our countries," Borissov noted.
