Sofia, June 3 (BTA) - A total of 35,164 high-school leavers countrywide Wednesday sat for the second compulsory matriculation examination, which is in a subject of their choice, Bulgaria's Ministry of Education and Science said in a press release.

The examinees had 13 subjects to choose from. The largest number this year, 11,711, opted for English, followed by Biology and Health Education, 8,926, Geography and Economics, 4,431, Philosophy, 4,326, Mathematics, 2,496, History and Civilization, 911, German, 912, French, 372, Russian, 317, Spanish, 315, Physics and Astronomy, 194, Chemistry and Environmental Protection, 184, and Italian, 69.

Just two examination papers were disallowed, the Ministry said.

The first compulsory matriculation examination, in Bulgarian Language and Literature, took place on June 1. NV/LG
