Borissov Not Optimistic about Forming New Cabinet, Says GERB May Give Up Their Mandate
Sofia, October 31 (BTA) - The leader of the election-winning
GERB party, Boyko Borissov, said on Friday he is not optimistic
about the formation of the new cabinet because of the messages
sent out by GERB's potential partner, the Reformist Bloc.
Borissov complained of incoherent communication between the two
political entities and an apparent unwillingness on the part of
the Reformist Bloc to adopt a common position with GERB about
the ailing Corporate Commercial Bank.
He added that an option discussed Thursday, which involves GERB
and the Reformist Bloc putting together a minority cabinet that
can count on broader parliamentary support from the Patriotic
Front and possibly ABV, is still possible, but the parties
concerned must reach agreement by Monday. "If we fail to reach
agreement, we will take our [government-forming] mandate and
return it on Wednesday, and then we will head for elections,"
Borissov said, presenting one of the possible scenarios. "A
one-party cabinet of GERB is impossible under the circumstances,
because it will be a disaster," he noted.
Borissov accused the Reformist Bloc of being inconsistent in the
negotiations with GERB. "They need to consult someone every
time, so they go and consult them, and when they come back to
the talks the next day, we are still unable to make any
decision, because they need to consult someone again," he said.
The Reformist Bloc's Radan Kanev said it was news to hear that
GERB might give up their government-forming mandate.
