ABV Demands President's Resignation over His Comments about Russia, BSP ready for Talks on His Impeachment

Sofia, November 17 (BTA) - The ABV party Tuesday demanded the
immediate resignation of President Rosen Plevneliev over his
comments about Russia made in an interview for "The
Independent". Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) leader Mihail
Mikov said his party is ready to talk with the other
parliamentary groups about the head of State's impeachment.

On November 15, the head of State told "The Independent on
Sunday" that Russia plans a 'hybrid warfare' campaign aimed at
destabilizing the whole of Europe. Prime Minister Boyko Borissov
also rebuked the President in the news media and said that
Plevneliev should be more careful in his statements.

ABV Deputy Chairman Roumen Petkov told a news conference that
his party has to establish yet again that Plevneliev is
"absolutely inadequate". "This person is bad for Bulgaria, he
should tender his resignation immediately, he disgraced Bulgaria
in front of the democratic world," he said.

In Petkov's words, you cannot demonstrate against the background
of the November 13 tragedy in Paris, that you have an "ill
mind, an ill fantasy" and say that Russia's main goal is to hit
the website of the Central Election Commission in Bulgaria and
the Presidency, and that Russia has declared war on Bulgaria.
"This means he does not understand that our enemy is the Islamic
State and terrorism, because he hates Russia, he wants to
discredit Bulgaria in front of all normally thinking people, "
Petkov said, noting that the interview in question is read all
around the world.

The ABV parliamentary group is preparing and will table on
Wednesday a draft declaration with which the National Assembly
entrusts the Government with initiating the lifting of the
sanctions against Russia in the EU when the Russian side
undertakes the corresponding reciprocal actions. In Petkov's
words, this is today's solution: the EU, Russia and the United
States being part of a joint front against the Islamic State and
 terrorism as a whole.

ABV Spokesperson Mariana Todorova explained that the draft
declaration does not envisage a President's impeachment.

Later on Tuesday, BSP leader Mikov told a news conference that
his party is ready to hold talks with the other parliamentary
groups about President Plevneliev's impeachment. "There are
constitutional mechanisms which can be used and, if the
political parties thinks so, we from the BSP are ready to talk
on this matter," he said.

"I find it interesting when the politicians from the Government,
which is working quite well with President Plevneliev on
various policies, demand resignations so loudly in front of the
media," Mikov said, commenting on ABV's demand that the head of
State resign.

Plevneliev is working against Bulgaria's national interests not
only with statements but also with certain actions, Mikov went
on to say. He recalled he had raised the question why Ecumenical
Patriarch Bartholomew was presented with the Order of the
Balkan Range in violation of the law.
