site.btaPresident Radev Participates in Observances of 140th Anniversary of Shipka Epopee

Gabrovo, August 26 (BTA) - Hundreds of children, youth and adults climbed on foot, by bicycles and cars the historical Shipka Mount to commemorate the soldiers who perished for Bulgaria's liberation in the August battles at the Shipka Mount 140 years ago.

This is the place where the outcome of the Russo-Turkish War and Bulgaria's fate was determined 140 years ago, President Rumen Radev said in his speech at the Shipka Mount. According to the President, "this is a holy place which unites us as people and instills strength, dignity and faith". He urged the Bulgarians to follow the example of the Shipka heroes although now the time is different and has different challenges.

Radev took part in the observances of the 140th anniversary and laid a wreath to the Monument of Liberty.

Veliko Turnovo Mitropolitan Grigorii held a prayer service for those who perished in the battles.

Participating in the official ceremony was also National Assembly Chairman Dimiter Glavchev as well as diplomats, MPs, regional governors, mayors and public figures.
