Sofia, August 29 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency has found fipronil in a new batch of egg-yolk powder delivered from Germany. A lab test has established a high level of fipronil, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forest said.

A total of 500 kg of this egg yolk has been delivered to Bulgaria. About 93 kg of it has been used in the production of 12,500 kg of ice cream. The ice cream has been withdrawn from the market.

The remaining quantity of 407 kg will be destroyed.

On August 28 the European Commission confirmed a notification by the Bulgarian food safety authorities for the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF). By this all member-states are notified that another batch of egg-yolk contaminated with fipronil has been distributed across the European market.

Egg farms and warehouses, and production facilities using egg products across Bulgaria are currently being checked, the Agriculture Ministry said.

Each batch of eggs and egg products which is imported to Bulgaria without accompanying test results showing that it is free of fipronil, will be put to laboratory tests. A batch of eggs from Poland has already been checked and tested negative for fipronil, the Ministry said.
