Bulgaria Are from
Afghanistan: Eurostat
Sofia, Mart 20 (BTA) - The largest number of asylum-seekers in Bulgaria are from Afghanistan, according to Eurostat figures on the number of first-time asylum-seekers in Europe in 2017. Afghan asylum-seekers to Bulgaria totalled 1,050. The second-largest group were from Iraq (955) followed by Syrians (940).
In January-February 2018, a total of 224 persons applies for protection in Bulgaria and the largest groups among them were Syrians (35) and Afghans (20).
A total of 60 were granted refugee status and 98 subsidiary protection status. 180 protection applications were rejected.
According to 15-year statistics from the Bulgarian State Agency for Refugees, some 25,000 people from Afghanistan sought asylum in Bulgaria, as did about 21,000 Syrians and 19,000 Iraqis. LY/LN/
