Successfully implemented projects and the opportunities provided by the European Union were presented by Petrich Mayor Dimitar Bruchkov during the local conference part of the Europe on Balkans: Cohesion Skills project here on Thursday. Bruchkov said that what has been accomplished so far is a foundation that provides more opportunities.

He added: "When we take advantage of the opportunities provided by all these European Structural and Investment Funds in the development of settlements, as well as the regional centre, we create the base which can be built on."

He stressed that the current challenges are bigger, which is why the municipalities of Petrich, Sandanski, Strumyani and Kresna should not waste the opportunities they have.

The mayor pointed out that when communities work together, they can improve the economic state of the region. He pointed to the Heraclea Sintica archaeological site, which initiated local projects that later grew to ones of national importance.

Through this initiative, BTA aims to raise public awareness and foster open dialogue about cohesion policy, local achievements, and the implementation of the EU's policy priorities. Between November 2024 and September 2025, BTA will host discussions at its press clubs in the following cities: Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Vidin, Vratsa, Gabrovo, Dobrich, Kazanlak, Kardzhali, Kyustendil, Lovech, Montana, Pazardzhik, Pernik, Pleven, Razgrad, Ruse, Samokov, Svishtov, Sliven, Smolyan, Sofia, Stara Zagora, Troyan, Targovishte, Haskovo, Shumen, and Yambol. Cross-border conferences will be held in Belgrade, Bosilegrad, Bucharest, Edirne, Skopje, and Thessaloniki. The project builds on the Europe in the Balkans: A Common Future and Europe in Bulgaria: A Common Future projects, implemented by BTA in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
