Truck traffic is very heavy at the Danube Bridge border checkpoint near Ruse, said border officials on Thursday. About 40 trucks are waiting in the border zone area, with the remaining trucks waiting mainly in the buffer parking lot, which is also almost full. The waiting time there is about 18 hours.

"I come from Greece. I arrived in Ruse at around 7.30 pm on Wednesday, and I left the parking lot at 12.30 pm today. It's a long time, but there's nothing we can do. Queues are a big problem", said truck driver Mitko Agovski, who must get to Bucharest, unload his truck and return again.

Border officials pointed out that truck traffic is expected to be extremely heavy in the coming days, as there will be  temporary suspension of the processing of cargo vehicles at the Lesovo and Kapitan Andreevo border crossing checkpoints due to the introduction of a new information system, as well as the increase in deliveries due to the approaching holidays.

The officials noted that a total of 2,921 trucks passed through the checkpoint at the Danube Bridge near Ruse in both directions over the last 24 hours. Of these, 1,489 entered Bulgaria, and 1,432 left the country.
