site.btaSamokov Celebrates Town Patron St Simeon of Samokov
The town of Samokov celebrated its holiday dedicated to the town's patron St Simeon of Samokov here on Wednesday.
The festival began with the participation of representatives from the National Guards Unit of Bulgaria. Congratulatory addresses were sent from President Rumen Radev, from ministers, mayors, MPs, as well as from BTA Director General Kiril Valchev. Among the guests of the celebration were MPs Yordanka Fandakova, Mladen Marinov and Valentin Milushev, as well as Sofia Regional Governor Silvia Arnautska.
Mayor Angel Dzhorgov said: "Our Samokov has a rich history, it has its renowned painters, it is known as the cradle of Bulgarian Revival literature, enlightenment and culture, but the real wealth of Samokov is you, its people, as well as the example of its saints who have cared for the people of Samokov."
The celebrations were also attended by the Head of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Daniil, who was presented with an icon of St Simeon of Samokov and a symbolic key to the gates of the town.
