The Bulgarian News Agency's team in Varna received the Varna Award for actively covering the public and cultural life in the city and on the occasion of BTA's 125th anniversary. Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev and municipal councillor Hristo Dimitrov conferred the award on Thursday.

On behalf of the BTA team in Varna, Valentina Dobrincheva thanked the initiative committee that nominated them and the Municipal Council for the award. "The dignity of our small team is that we tell truthfully and preserve truthfully what happens, what we see in the city, and the dignity of what happens depends on each of us," she noted.

The Varna Award was established in 1965. It is traditionally conferred on the eve of May 24, the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture and of Slavic Literature. This year saw the presentation of 33 distinctions on individuals and teams in the fields of education, science, culture, and journalism.

Photo reporter Plamen Goutinov was awarded for his photo exhibition "The City's Pulse". Zoya Cheresharova-Minaylova from the Regional TV centre of Bulgarian National Television was awarded for her work as an author of the Flight to Dreams documentary, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Varna Children's and Youth Opera.
