Gabrovo will hold its traditional annual festival on Saturday. The carnival procession will show a series of 74 scenes taken from life under the motto “Make Carnival, Not War!”
The pageant will begin at 6 pm and will follow its traditional route through the centre of Gabrovo.
This year’s edition will focus on division and antagonism in society, said carnival director Svetoslav Slavchev on Bulgarian National Radio. "In addition to war globally, we look at war as war on the Internet, the hatred which is pouring and all kinds of antagonism. Satire has always been a distorting mirror of our everyday life.”
The carnival in Gabrovo will display large scale models, which have taken three months of work by artists and their assistants in the carnival workshop, who are putting the finishing touches. This year there are 19 models and the largest reach nearly 5 m. They have taken 18 cu m of foam, iron, bars, paper, hundreds of kilograms of glue and paint. Several acts are dedicated to domestic and international politicians.
