Final inspections are underway before the start of the Modern Pentathlon World Cup tournament in Sofia. The competition for men and women will be held from May 8 to 13 at the Diana National Sports Complex. This year's edition has athletes from a record 43 countries; 109 men and 90 women will compete.

On site in the capital's Dianabad district are the technical delegates from the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM), who certify the suitability of the course for the five disciplines: fencing, swimming, riding, shooting and running. The organization of the event is going according to plan, the Bulgarian Modern Pentathlon Federation said.

Racing begins with the women's qualifier on Wednesday and the men's on Thursday. The semi-finals for both genders are on Friday and Saturday, and the two finals are scheduled for Sunday. The final day on May 13 is the medley relay.

The World Cup in Sofia is also a qualifier for Paris 2024, which will feature riding for the last time.
