site.bta68 Years Ago Today: First Weather Forecast for Civilian Purpose Put Out in Bulgaria
The first civilian weather forecast was put on in Bulgaria on May 6, 1956. It was prepared by Martin Martinov of the Forecasts Department of the then Institute of Hydrology and Meteorology, said the National Institute of Hydrology and Meteorology (NIHM).
Now NIHM prepares weather, hydrological, maritime and agrometeorological forecasts for Bulgaria, the Balkans, Europe and the Black Sea, and offers custom forecasts on demand. They are based on regular measurements: ground, satellite and radar, and digital models (meteorological, hydrological, and of sea wave movement).
NIHM is a key factor of scientific research and operational work in meteorology, agrometeorology and hydrology and is Bulgaria's official representative in the World Meteorological Organization.
