Prof. Avgust Ivanov, director of the Institute of Robotics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and co-inventor of 31 patents, had his name inscribed in the Golden Book of the Patent Office during an official ceremony here on Wednesday. Ivanov's work encompasses the fields of robotics, sensing, artificial intelligence, nano and micro technologies.
Ivanov's name was announced by Patent Office President Olya Dimitrova during the 42nd ceremony of inscription in the Golden Book of the names of Bulgarian scientists and inventors who have contributed to the innovative development of the economy and the country's reputation worldwide.
The award was presented by Dimitrova and Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry David Sukalinski.
Dimitrova pointed out that entering one's name in the Golden Book is the highest distinction that the department can award to researchers and inventors as an expression of respect and recognition. She noted that since the Book was introduced in 1981, the names of more than 160 scientists have been included in it.
In his speech, Ivanov noted BAS's role in creating conditions and motivation for scientists to make discoveries and to explore the unknown.
Ivanov is part of a team that has developed a new generation of magnetic field sensors, Hall sensors with simplified design and planar magnetosensitivity. They have no analogue in control and measurement technology, the Patent Office said. They have multifunctional applicability in robotics, artificial intelligence systems, automation, sensing, medicine, meteorology, process automation and counterterrorism, among others.
