Three Bessarabian Bulgarians from the Bolhrad District have died fighting at the front in the past month and a half, the Bolhrad District Military Administration said on its website on Tuesday.
Vladimir Malakchi, born in 1984, from the village of Tabaky died during an artillery shelling. He will be buried in his native village.
Evgeni Manolov of Bolhrad was killed during a battle in the Kherson Region. The thirty-nine-year-old had been a member of the Ukrainian army since the start of the war in 2022.
Denis Prodanov died while performing a combat task in Zaporizhzhia Region. At the beginning of the war he got enlisted in territorial defence and was later sent to the front. He was born in the village of Glavan, but in the last ten years he and his family moved to live in another village near Bolhrad - Zaliznychne.
The Bolhrad District was last formed on July 17, 2020, as a result of an administrative-territorial reform in Ukraine. The district unites eight rural and two urban municipalities. More than 60% of the population is Bulgarian. Bolhrad District has the largest number of compact Bulgarian population in the country.
