Bulgarian surgeon Prof. Dr. Ivo Tzvetanov made history as the first recipient of the University of Illinois' Enrico Benedetti Transplant Award. This was announced on his Facebook account by the Consul General of Bulgaria in Chicago Svetoslav Stankov. The award was presented to Prof. Dr. Tzvetanov at a ceremony in Chicago in the presence of the leadership of the University of Illinois, business representatives, professors, doctors and students.
In his speech, the doctor paid special attention to Bulgaria as his homeland and the place where he received his upbringing, education and future.
Prof. Dr. Ivo Tzvetanov is the head of the Transplant Clinic at the College of Medicine and is one of the best transplantologists in the world. After completing his higher education at the Medical University of Sofia in 1992, he specialized at the Fifth City Hospital Sofia, and in 2002 he left for the USA where he pursued his dream to specialize in transplantology.
