Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Sweden, Svetlana Stoycheva-Etropolski, has conferred with King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia at a diplomatic reception at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, the Bulgarian Embassy in Sweden said on its website.

During the talks, Stoycheva-Etropolski expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome in Sweden and affirmed her strong commitment to developing and expanding the close ties and cooperation between Bulgaria and Sweden. The sides discussed innovation and high technologies, with the Bulgarian Ambassador highlighting this country’s achievements. Education and the development of future skills are crucial to ensuring that the next generation of scientists and innovators is prepared to tackle future challenges, the diplomatic mission said.

The Ambassador shared her impressions from her recent visit to Kiruna, home to the Esrange Space Center, which focuses on space exploration, satellite technology, and atmospheric research. She noted that Bulgaria, with its growing technology and aerospace sector, could cooperate in the development of satellites, space research, or studies of the upper atmosphere, the Embassy added.

The meeting also included discussions on the progress of clean technologies, efforts to combat climate change, and the role of sport as a unifying force, given the strong sporting traditions in both countries. "Sweden supports sport as a tool for building community and social cohesion, promoting health, and fostering unity across cultural boundaries," the diplomatic mission’s website reads. The Ambassador highlighted sports diplomacy as a means to strengthen ties between the two nations.

Stoycheva-Etropolski also held talks with senior palace officials. She took the opportunity to share more about Bulgaria, including the valuable connections between the people of both countries, the culture and lifestyle of Bulgarians, and to introduce the Bulgarian community in Sweden. She also presented the Embassy’s ambitions to further develop economic relations between Bulgaria and Sweden.
