The Director General of the Ukrainian National News Agency Ukrinform, Serhiy Cherevaty, spoke at the 19th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media held at the National Press Club of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) in Odesa, Ukraine on Wednesday. He expressed gratitude for the Bulgarian media's solidarity.

The event, held in a hybrid format, in-person and online, spans across cities with large Bulgarian communities – Odesa, Bolhrad, and Izmail. Cherevaty highlighted the gesture as a memorable act of friendship.

Cherevaty expressed his warm welcome to visitors in Odesa, a city linked to Bulgaria through the Black Sea. He highlighted the significant Bulgarian community in Ukraine, emphasizing their crucial role in resisting the aggression that Ukraine faces. He also expressed warm memories of Maxim Minchev, the initiator of the Bulgarian media meetings, and acknowledged the strong partnership between the agencies.

Cherevaty also highlighted Odesa’s strategic importance for Ukraine, serving as a crucial port and naval base and crucial in the efforts to regain control over Sevastopol. He also highlighted the Ukrainian aspiration to join the EU and NATO and added that Russia has perpetuated the myth that NATO serves as an anti-Orthodox and anti-Slavic alliance. However, Bulgaria, a steadfast and complete member of both NATO and the European Union, effectively demonstrates the fallacy of this claim.

Cherevaty emphasized the importance of truthful journalism. He urged the visiting Bulgarian reporters to engage with the local population in Odesa and convey their stories accurately back to Bulgaria. He expressed gratitude for the support that Bulgaria and the Bulgarian government are providing to Ukraine.

During the forum at BTA’s National Press Club in Odesa, the power failed twice, prompting the activation of generators to sustain the meeting.

BTA is organizing the 19th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media in Odesa, Bolhrad, and Izmail, Ukraine, from June 18 to June 21, 2024. The event is taking place with the support of Aurubis Bulgaria, A1 Bulgaria Bulgaria, Glavbolgarstroy Holding AD, Euroins Insurance Group, Postbank, SOF Connect, and the 13 Centuries of Bulgaria National Endowment Fund.
