The educational institutions in Moldova's Taraclia District, where the population is predominantly Bulgarian, are in need of transport for their students. The District’s Education Department has eight working transport units of its own, of which two are rented. At least two more buses are needed, the head of the department, Lilia Sarsaman, said at a meeting of the district councillors.

"Bus shortages are an acute problem for us. We need buses both to transport children and to replace the old ones," Lilia Sarsaman added, noting that the current solution to the problem is renting transport units. The Education Department has sent letters to the Moldovan Education Ministry and MPs asking for help in solving this problem.

"We were promised assistance through a project that is being implemented in partnership with the Romanian Government," Sarsaman said. However, the district administration was told that transport could be purchased with resources from the education component or from local council funds. "For now, we are using the buses available to the Education Department," Sarsaman said.

This year, school transport will be used by 586 children, the local news portal tuk.md reported.
