Day 53: RSV 421 to Pick Up Last Group of Bulgarian Antarctic Passengers

The Bulgarian naval research vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421), providing support for the 31st Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition, docked at King George Island. In the early morning hours of February 17, the ship dropped off a group of Bulgarian passengers who traveled on it from Mar del Plata in Argentina to the Bulgarian Antarctic base St. Kliment Ohridski on Livingston Island. RSV 421 also transported a group of Spanish scientists from the Juan Carlos I and Gabriel de Castilla polar stations to King George.
In the evening before they left the ship, the passengers were presented with certificates of successful passage through the Drake Passage by ship commander Nikolay Danailov, who told them he was glad to have had them as part of the crew.
Later, the RSV 421 will take on board the last group of seven Bulgarian Antarctic expedition members, as well as another group of Spanish polar explorers in the spirit of the long-standing cooperation between the Antarctic institutes of the two countries.
