Day 29 - Guiana Current Diminishes Speed of Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii

At the end of the 28th day of its voyage to Antarctica, the Bulgarian military research/survey vessel (NAVAL RSV 421) approached less than 200 nautical miles to the easternmost part of South America - the Brazilian coast near Recife. Staying on a south-southwest course across the Atlantic Ocean, the ship will traverse another 1,000 miles or so past Brazil to a point just east of the Brazilian city of Vitoria, where it will make a U-turn to the second stop on its voyage, Mar del Plata in Argentina. The distance awaiting RSV 421 from the turn at Vitoria to Mar del Plata is another 1,400 miles. From its departure from the port of Varna on December 27 to January 23, the Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii has covered approximately 3,620 miles, crossing the Black Sea, the Sea of Marmara, the Aegean Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, as well as part of the Atlantic Ocean.
