In the first public lecture for 2024 of the World of Physics Live, Chief Assistant Professor Dr Gergana Georgieva and Vasil Gurev will present "The Road to Antarctica", said the Union of Physicists in Bulgaria.

The lecture will take place at the American Corner of the Sofia City Library on February 13. It is organized by the World of Physics journal, the Department of Physics at the St Ivan Rilski University of Mining and Geology and the Sofia City Library.

The lecturers will tell about what attracts people to that hostile location, what Antarctica gives to science, its impact on the planet's climate and human life. The scientists will share exciting results of their research of glaciers' seismic and dynamic features in the area of the Bulgarian Antarctic Base on Livingston Island. The lecture will discuss the development of the base, starting from the first hard years to its present shape, the new laboratory building, the ship Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii and the people who have travelled to Antarctica over the last 40 years.
