"The "cordon sanitaire" (sanitary cordon) around [MRF-New Beginning leader Delyan] Peevski, a legislative initiative to immediately stop the appointment of [Borislav] Sarafov [as prosecutor general] by a Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) with an expired term of office, and removing Peevski's influence from the anti-corruption commission, are the most practical steps to continue to reclaim our democracy," Continue the Change Co-chair Kiril Petkov wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday.
"If all the other parties come together to agree that the SJC with an expired mandate cannot elect a new prosecutor general - Peevski will not have a prosecutor general. If we accept the rules for the anti-corruption commission, Peevski will not have this either," he said.
According to Petkov, "it is obvious that we have a party that is trying to steal democracy, to steal the free vote of the people, to steal our future". He also considers it obvious that if the Interior Ministry really worked, MRF-New Beginning would not have entered parliament.
"What we can and must do is completely isolate New Beginning politically. Let's see if GERB and the other parties have the courage to support such a political move or if they are dependent on Peevski," Petkov pointed out.
On Tuesday Kiril Petkov called for a "cordon sanitaire" around Delyan Peevski's party. "We are witnessing large-scale abuse. In reality, we have a party that, if we had working institutions, would not be in parliament," Petkov said during a press conference.
