Socialists' Leader Signs Agreement with Trade Unions for BSP's Support for Decent Pay in Universities

Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) leader Korneliya Ninova signed an agreement with the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) and the Podkrepa Confederation of labour to guarantee decent remuneration for those working in the field of higher education and science, the party's press centre said on Friday.

The BSP commits to take all necessary actions in the 50th National Assembly by June 30, 2024 to ensure the implementation of the Higher Education Act and to provide funds for salary growth that corresponds to the current legislation according to the latest changes to the Higher Education Act, the agreement states.

The presidents of CITUB and Podkrepa, Plamen Dimitrov and Dimitar Manolov, as well as Liliana Valcheva and Valeri Apostolov, presidents of the educational unions of both structures, signed the agreement. The guarantor for the implementation of the agreement is Minister of Finance Lyudmila Petkova.

Higher education is a national priority and a key element of national security because it is the backbone of the nation's human capital, the agreement reads.
