Bulgaria’s caretaker cabinet strictly adheres to the election legislation and consistently works towards the holding of fair and transparent elections, Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said at a meeting with Transparency International Board of Directors Chair Francois Valerian and the Executive Director of Transparency International Bulgaria, Kalin Slavov, here on Wednesday, as quoted by the Government Information Service.

Glavchev highlighted the international prestige of the organization and welcomed its proactive attitude towards the transparency of the electoral process. The Transparency International representatives noted that 2024 is marked by elections on a global scale, stressing that they consider election administration an important matter. Glavchev was adamant that his cabinet will do its part to the best of its ability.

The fight against corruption was another highlight of Wednesday’s discussion at the Council of Ministers. Glavchev outlined the opportunities for closer cooperation within the National Council for Anti-Corruption Policies and its Citizens' Council. The Bulgarian caretaker Prime Minister and Transparency International representatives agreed on the importance of active interaction between institutions, the non-governmental sector, and the public.

Transparency International congratulated Bulgaria on its progress towards the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), where integrity is an essential aspect. Glavchev noted that following his meeting with OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann in Paris, this country has been given a specific deadline for joining the organization for the first time.
