The Bulgarian Socialist Party insists that the Economy Minister should order two units of Maritsa East 2 TPP to be put on the regulated market for the next regulatory period as soon as possible. The position was stated on Friday during the presentation of the list of the BSP for Bulgaria coalition with candidates for MPs from the 27th constituency election commission - Stara Zagora by its leader Dragomir Stoynev.

He stressed that the inclusion "will lead to reassurance for the citizens, workers and everyone in the Stara Zagora region, and in the country, because thus the security of coal-fired power generation will be guaranteed." According to him, the reason for the need of this act is that "we do not yet have a model in place that will lead to liberalization".

The leader of the BSP list said that "there should be a complete revision of the Territorial Just Transition Plans and they should be prepared by the state and not by NGOs. He is in favour of "a complete revision of the green deal so that countries like Bulgaria, which have already met their emission quotas, are not subject to future caps. And the price of those emissions should not be set administratively, it should be such that our coal power industry is competitive." He said it was important to declare coal regions as "tax exempt". According to Stoynev, it would attract investors back.
