Bulgarian President Rumen Radev praised Codex Suprasliensis (called also the Retkov Sbornik) - one of the most significant medieval relics of Slavic literary heritage - during a visit to Poland’s National Library on Monday, where part of the original manuscript is preserved. In recognition of the institution’s vital role in preserving and promoting the Codex, and to mark the 200th anniversary of its discovery, President Radev presented the library with the Sts. Cyril and Methodius plaque.
The award symbolizes Bulgaria’s appreciation for the safeguarding of this unique cultural treasure.
Codex Suprasliensis was written roughly 1,000 years ago in Preslav and later transferred to the Suprasl Monastery about 500 years ago. It entered the scholarly world two centuries ago when it was discovered by Russian scholar Mikhail Bobrovsky.
President Radev arrived in Warsaw earlier today for a two-day visit at the invitation of Polish President Andrzej Duda to participate in the 10th Three Seas Initiative Summit.
