Mountain conditions are not suitable for tourism, as the most frequently used trails are icy, creating risks of injury, the Mountain Rescue Service (MRS) of the Bulgarian Red Cross told BTA.

In the high mountain areas, there is fog, snow, and moderate wind. On Sunday, the MRS team in Bansko assisted a woman who broke her arm after slipping on the ice.

Around midnight, a tourist contacted rescuers in Sofia after becoming lost on Mount Vitosha. Rescuers gave him instructions until about 4:00 a.m., when his phone battery ran out. Contact with him has not yet been re-established, the MRS said.
