Bulgaria’s women’s sabre team finished ninth at the Sabre World Cup in Plovdiv on Sunday. A total of 19 teams from 19 countries competed for the top spots.

The Bulgarian team, made up of Yoana Ilieva, Olga Hramova, Emma Neikova, and Kalina Atanasova, faced Japan, with the latter wining 45-39 and claiming the gold medals.

In their first bout to determine places 9th through 16th, the Bulgarian team triumphed over Ukraine with a 45-25 victory. Then they defeated Azerbaijan 45-39. In their final bout for 8th-9th place, the Bulgarians prevailed over Italy 40-45, securing ninth place.

Bulgaria’s men’s sabre team, comprising Todor Stoychev, Ivaylo Alexandrov, Viktor Filev, and Dimitar Raykin, finished 23rd in the competition.
