The mountains offer good hiking conditions on Thursday, the Mountain Rescue Service (MRS) of the Bulgarian Red Cross said, adding that hikers should bear in mind that the temperatures have gone down.

In the morning, temperatures range between 1C and 2C, with areas at higher altitudes dipping below zero, the MRS added. It is windy along the ridges, with scattered clouds, and sunny in the Balkan Mountains.

Hikers are advised to pay close attention to their equipment and carefully plan their route, as the cold temperatures have left the terrain wet, increasing the risk of accidents.

Variable cloud cover is expected in the mountains, with moderate to strong northwesterly wind, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology said. Highs: 10C-11C at 1,200 m, and around 4C at 2,000 m.
