site.btaTomova Loses in First Round of Japan Women's Open Tennis Tournament
Bulgarian tennis player and sixth seed Viktoriya Tomova was knocked out in round one of the Kinoshita Group Japan Open here on Monday. The upset came after Dutch qualifier Suzan Lamens defeated Tomova 6-1, 6-2 in 63 minutes.
After a 1-1 draw in the first set, Tomova lost five consecutive games and respectively the set.
Tomova trailed 1-3 in the second set. She won one game to trail 2-3 but lost the next three games, which ended the match.
The Bulgarian athlete slipped one place in the global rankings and now occupies 49th place.
