site.btaBulgarian Tennis Player Gergana Topalova to Play in Final Qualifying Round at Wimbledon

Bulgarian tennis player Gergana Topalova will play in the final qualifying round at Wimbledon after a 6-0 6-2 win over Anastasia Zakharova in London on Wednesday. This is the first time Topalova has competed in women's Grand Slam tournament after playing at such only at junior level. 

The Bulgarian, ranked No. 229 in the world, defeated two top 200 player en route to the final qualifying round - world No. 157 Ella Seidel and No. 159 Zakharova. Thus, she moved one win away from a debut at a Grand Slam main draw.

In the final qualifying round, Topalova will meet world No. 134 Panna Udvardy. A win will mean that Bulgaria will have two female players in a main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time since 2020 when Tsvetana Pironkova and Viktoriya Tomova played at US Open.

Tomova's ranking has secured her a spot directly into the Wimbledon main draw.
