Bulgaria's highest ranked female player Viktoriya Tomova qualified for the second round of the WTA 500 tournament in Bad Homburg, Germany after a convincing 6-1 6-3 win over world No. 56 Tatjana Maria on Sunday. 

Tomova, who started the competition from the qualifications, dominated the game from the first game, getting a 5-0 lead. She won 71% of the points played on her first serve and saved four break points.

In the next round, the Bulgarian will meet the winner of the match between world No. 24 Anna Kalinskaya and No. 28 Linda Noskova. 

Last week, Tomova reached the final of the W125 tournament in Valencia, which led her to a new career high ranking on Monday - No. 63.
