Bulgaria's highest ranked female tennis player Viktoriya Tomova secured her first career main draw win in the women's singles competition at the French Open in Paris on Monday.

In the first round of the event, Tomova defeated world No. 18 Ekaterina Alexandrova in straight sets: 6-3, 7-6 (5), thus achieving a first career win against a top 20 player. Her previous best win came at Wimbledon 2023, where she defeated Bernarda Pera, who was standing at world No. 27 at the time.

Tomova's opponent in the second round will be world No. 37 Xinyu Wang (China), who beat Jule Niemeier (Germany) in three sets in the first round. Tomova and Wang faced each other a total of three times, with the Chinese player leading two wins to one. The last time they played was this April in Madrid, when Wang secured a 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 win.
