Bulgarian short track speed skaters Katrin Manoilova and Ivan Donchev qualified for the semi-finals in the 1,500 metres events at the 2024 European Championships in Gdansk, Poland.

In the women’s 1,500 metres event, Manoilova finished third in the first heat of the competition, stopping the clock at 2:32.478 minutes, thus advancing to the semis. Also participating in the women’s 500 meters event, Manoilova finished fourth (46.052 seconds), failing to meet the time needed to qualify, but still has a chance to progress through a repechage.

In the men’s 1,500 metres, Donchev finished third in the second heat of the event, advancing with a time of 2:30.469 minutes. Another Bulgarian, Stefan-Aleksandar Kyumyurzhiev finished fifth in the fifth heat with a time of 2:32.036 minutes.

In the men’s 500 metres, Donchev finished third in the second heat (42.880), thus failing to advance by a small margin.

The Bulgarian national team will also participate in the mixed 1,000 metres event and the men’s 5,000 metres relay, competing with the Netherlands and Germany.
