site.btaTennis Player Tomova Qualifies for Hobart Quarterfinals with Convincing Win over World No. 42

Bulgaria's highest ranked female tennis player Viktoriya Tomova scored one of the most impressive wins of her career on Wednesday, eliminating world No. 42 Tatiana Maria with 6-0 6-1 to reach the quarterfinals of the WTA 250 tournament in Hobart, Australia. 

Tomova failed to win her final qualifying match on January 7 but entered the main draw as a lucky loser and have lost a total of just seven games in her two matches since.  

The Bulgarian is No. 77 in the WTA rankings but her performance this week can see her rise to a new career high on Monday, depending on how far she goes into the tournament and the results of Laura Siegemund and Anna Kalinskaya who have similar points to her. In the Live WTA Rankings (the real-time tracking of the performance of players, which is not accepted as official statistics) she currently stands at No.70 with her best ranking so far being No. 71.

Tomova's next opponent will be the tournament's second seed Emma Navarro (No. 31) or Magdalena Frech (72) who won over the Bulgarian in the final round of the qualifiers.
