Foreign direct investment in Bulgaria at the end of August 2025 recorded a positive value of EUR 1,537.1 million, according to preliminary data released by Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) on Friday. In comparison, the net flows of foreign direct investment from January – August 2024 had a positive value of EUR 1,725.6 million, or EUR 188.5 million (10.9%) more than the present result.

Foreign direct investment in Bulgaria recorded a net inflow of EUR 361.8 million in August 2025, or 1.4% of GDP in January – August 2025, compared with an inflow of EUR 533.6 million in August 2024, or 1.7% of GDP in January – August 2024.

The BNB data on direct investment are preliminary and subject to revision.

Equity (acquisition/disposal of shares and equities in cash and contributions in kind by non-residents in/from the capital and reserves of Bulgarian enterprises, and receipts/payments from/for real estate deals in the country) recorded a positive value of EUR 227.8 million in January – August 2025. It grew by EUR 260 million from a negative value of EUR 32.2 million in January – August 2024.

Real estate investments of non-residents recorded a net outflow of EUR 12.1 million, compared with a negative value of EUR 5.5 million in January – August 2024, BNB reported.
