A problem persists with one of the steam generators at Unit 6 of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), said Nuclear Regulatory Agency Chair Tsanko Bachiyski during a Monday seminar here on Monday on the Agency’s preparedness for innovative projects such as small modular reactors and the AP1000.
“The issue with the steam generator at Unit 6 is still unresolved. Cracks periodically appear in a specific area,” Bachiyski said, adding that the problem concerns only one steam generator out of a total of eight.
Kozloduy NPP has developed a special programme to identify the cause, which is currently being implemented and involves testing various hypotheses, Bachiyski explained. He assured that each shutdown of the unit is carried out as a preventive measure.
On July 17, Unit 6 of Kozloduy NPP was shut down for planned maintenance works related to a leak of a heat carrier in the third steam generator. The decision to shut down the unit was taken to ensure its necessary high safety and reliable electricity supply during the summer period. On August 5, the unit was connected to the national power system again.
