In order to ensure the necessary quantities of natural gas for Bulgarian consumers during the upcoming autumn-winter season, the state-owned public supplier Bulgargaz announced a tender procedure for the supply of four shipments of liquefied natural gas to the terminal in Alexandroupolis, the company said. According to the agreed annual programme with the terminal operator Gastrade, the company is to deliver four shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the amount of 1 million MWh each.
The deliveries are to be made in October and December 2025, and January and March 2026, Bulgargaz said.
Thirty-seven international companies (LNG traders and producers) that have expressed interest in previous tenders conducted by the company and have successfully passed the Bulgargaz approval procedure have been invited to participate in the tender procedure.
Bids for the cargoes scheduled for delivery in October and December this year should be submitted on September 23, and for those in January and March 2026 - on October 3.
The bids received will be evaluated according to a methodology based on the criteria of lowest delivery price, delivery time, and payment method. The current tender is in implementation of one of the measures set out in the Management Program of the Republic of Bulgaria for the 2025-2029 period, approved by a decision of the Council of Ministers, which aims to guarantee the country's energy security.
In 2024, the state-owned company Bulgargaz announced three tender procedures for the supply of a total of five cargoes (5,000,000 MWh) of liquefied natural gas within its reserved capacity at the Alexandroupolis terminal during the heating season. The first tender was for the supply of natural gas in October, the second for November and December 2024, and the third for January and February 2025. The quantities sought were for one shipment per month.
