Armored vehicle manufacturer International Armored Group (IAG) will open a new plant on October 1 in Burgas, the company said. Spanning an area of 150,000 sq m, the facility will produce Bulgarian defence equipment in line with NATO standards. The groundbreaking ceremony for the plant took place in March 2023.
The contractor for the project in the Black Sea city is the company Glavbolgarstroy Plovdiv. Various types of armoured vehicles and drones for rescue, reconnaissance, and emergency squads are expected to roll off the facility’s production lines. Military evacuation cranes and light patrol vehicles will also be in serial production, as in the rest of the IAG plants around the world. The development of wheeled and tracked robots is also in the pipeline, the company added.
"At a time when quality defence equipment is becoming essential for the security of countries and people, we will produce in Bulgaria products in accordance with the highest NATO standards for the whole world. I am very proud of this investment and the opportunities it opens not only for IAG as a company but also for the country as an exporter," said IAG owner Anton Stefov. The company's initial investment is expected to exceed BGN 20 million. Some 50 new Bulgarian specialists will kick-start production, with at least 300 workers expected to be employed in the course of the work.
IAG currently has plants in the US, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkiye.
