site.btaRoads Branch Chamber to Try to Make Road Building Attractive Profession Again
At a forum here on Wednesday, Bulgarian Branch Chamber Roads head Stefan Chaykov called on Bulgarian road construction companies to take urgent, targeted actions to restore the attractiveness of the road constructor profession and bring in young workers. The forum, titled "Past, Present and Future of Road Infrastructure in the Republic of Bulgaria", was held on the occasion of the Chamber's 30th anniversary.
Chaykov noted that the members of the Chamber employ over 20,000 people and, with all participants along the supply chain, have a direct and indirect effect on the lives and activity of more than 150,000 people.
In his words, the political turbulence of the last three years affected the sector. The ambiguous interpretations and outright politicking have led to moments where the investment process and companies' work were completely blocked. The lack of knowledge about the long-term processes in the sector's development, the specifics and difficulty of the work has led to negative attitudes in society, he said, adding that the Chamber will continue to make efforts to overcome them.
