Occupational injuries among men in Bulgaria have increased by 17.3% in the last 12 months, according to a comparative analysis released by the National Social Security Institute here on Wednesday. In 2022, the number of registered incidents involving men was 1,565, which increased by 270 to 1,835 in 2023. In 2022, 1,017 women were injured on the job, which dropped to 874 the following year. There has been an overall increase in work-related accidents of nearly 5%.

For the period compared, there was a positive trend in the severity of work-related accidents and the associated time taken to recover. On average, about 67 calendar days were lost per incident in 2022, while last year the number dropped to 62. There was also an overall decrease in calendar days lost, from 173,731 to 168,597.

In 2023, the economic activity with the highest number of occupational accidents was Retail Trade, except Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles with 250 accidents, followed by Land Transport with 207 accidents and General Government with 203 accidents.
