Electricity production in Bulgaria decreased by 21.41% from January 1 to November 26, 2023, compared to the like period of 2022, show the latest data on the country's energy balance published on the website of the Electricity System Operator on Tuesday. A total of 35,664,161 MWh of electricity were produced this year, compared to 45,393,404 MWh in 2022.
From January 1 to November 26, 2023, electricity consumption in Bulgaria amounted to 32,354,499 MWh, down by 4.77% from the like period of 2022.
The electricity balance (export-import) went down by 71.01%.
The participation of base plants in the country's energy balance decreased by 26.56% to 28,215,275 MWh in 2023 from 38,419,703 MWh in the January 1-November 26 period of 2023.
The participation of renewable energy sources in the transmission and in the distribution networks went up by 60.52% and 12.08%, respectively, year on year.
The electricity produced by hydroelectric power plants decreased by 18.41% this year, compared to January 1-November 26, 2022.
