Environment and Water Minister Julian Popov said at the forum Investments in Sustainable Energy that quite a few of the reforms have moved forward in a constructive way and changes in many laws have been adopted.

The forum was hosted Thursday at the Bulgarian Industrial Association building in Sofia.

The Environment and Water Minister said he believes that public funds should cover 20-25%-of the total cost of energy renovation of buildings. "This does not mean that everyone will get 20-25 per cent, but that some will be able to do their buildings entirely with their own funding, others, who are under the energy poverty threshold, will get a significantly higher share. So the whole energy poverty system needs to start working," said Popov.

Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Angelina Boneva joined the forum online. In her words, there should be no differences on the topic of energy efficiency.

According to the deputy minister, the difficulties come from the fact that Bulgarians want to get 100%funding for energy efficiency of buildings. She added that it is still difficult to achieve even a level of 20 percent co-financing by citizens.
