In 2021, 6.0 million people aged between 15 and 64 worked in the transport sector in the EU (3.1% of total employment in the Union), Eurostat reported Tuesday. In Bulgaria, that number stood at 159,000 people, placing Bulgarian tenth in the EU.
The highest number of employed in the transport sector was registered in France (842,000) and the lowest, in Cyprus (5,000).
Of the 6 million working in the EU's transport sector in 2021, the vast majority were male (82.9% versus 17.1% female). In Bulgaria, the share of female workers was 12.1%, which is the third lowest share in the Union after Romania's 9.7% and Croatia's 11.5%.
The highest share of females was recorded in Malta (25.2%).
